The Speech/Debate Organization of Spring Woods High School is a very competitive program which competes locally, across Texas and nationally. AND it's not just debate! There are acting events and public speaking events too. Victoria Beard has been the director of Forensics for 14 years. Raul Ruiz is the assistant director.  Last year, debater Hunter Brown was ranked 3rd as well as 3rd in the nation. We have qualified for UIL State in speech & debate for the past 12 years and have had UIL state champions and finalists. For the past 2 years, we have placed 3rd in Lincoln Douglas Debate at UIL State and placed 4th and 5th in Persuasive Speaking as well. Our team competes at locally as well as at Harvard, Yale, Glenbrook (in Chicago) and has had finalists at all these tournaments. At the Texas Forensic Association’s State Tournament, our team has had many finalists and 3 champions. At the Tournament of Champions, held in Lexington, Kentucky, Spring Woods Speech & Debate has had 2 champions as well as many finalists. This past summer Spring Woods' Speech/Debate team celebrated its 19th year at  the National Speech and Debate Association's National Tournament, where Hunter Brown placed 1st in Congressional Debate! This is the first for Spring Woods High School! The last time any debater in SBISD won at this prestigious and rigorous tournament was 52 years ago!  For more information about joining our organization, please drop by Ms. Beard’s room 129!!
